"Voices from Radio 4 provide a constant backdrop to my painting activities, easing the sense of isolation and aiding concentration whilst I work alone in my studio. I find the programmes and the extensive and varied range of language an important stimulus for the creative juices. Titles for my pictures often originate from words and phrases from the radio, words and phrases which serendipitously and curiously attach themselves to the mood or feel of a painting. Consequently, I cannot remember ever having used the
term 'untitled' for any of my abstract paintings."
